Shop / dunlop tortex guitar picks
First introduced in 1981, Tortex Picks were initially created to serve as a high-quality substitute for tortoiseshell. However, Jim Dunlop's groundbreaking invention quickly surpassed this purpose and established its own unique identity, setting a new standard by which all other picks are measured. With the introduction of Nylon Picks, Jim introduced a precision, consistency, and color-coded gauge system. Inspired by this success, Jim set out to design a pick with a crisp and lively attack, exceptional memory and durability, and an improved grip. To achieve this, he selected Delrin as the base material and dedicated over a year to developing a special treatment process that would unlock its full potential. It is this treatment process that differentiates Tortex Picks from all others, providing them with their distinctive grip-enhancing matte surface and aggressive attack. Expanding upon his previous picks' color-coded gauge system, Jim created a vibrant and timeless palette that has since become an industry standard. By adhering to Jim's original formula, Tortex Picks have maintained their status as our best-selling pick line. We continue to manufacture them at the Dunlop HQ in Benicia, California.
With the introduction of Tortex, Jim Dunlop sparked a revolution, forever changing the world of picks. The instantly recognizable turtle logo and the vibrant Tortex palette have become a universal language for guitar players. Step into any music store and ask for Green or Yellow Picks, and you'll likely be presented with a pack of Tortex .88mm or .73mm Picks. Musicians from all corners of the globe, representing a multitude of genres and playing styles, have chosen Tortex Picks to enhance their musical pursuits.
